Aura McKay ~ Artist Statement

For me photography is about communication and experience.  Through composition and content I seek to create an opportunity for the viewer to have a unique experience - to see something previously viewed as mundane or ugly shift to being beautiful, interesting and valuable or to enhance individual qualities of a subject that are exceptional in their essence. Shape, form, texture and visual juxtaposition are the foundation of my communication style - the aesthetic of an image often in contrast with the content, the narrative environment playful or unexpected.

Photographing people fuels my passion for collaboration and celebration.  I approach each session with an attitude of respect and discovery. 

I do not 'take pictures of' but rather 'make images with' my subjects, both models and clients.

A working professional for the past 10 years, I graduated with honours from photography school and am a member of the Professional Photographers Organization of Canada, sharing my passion for the art and techniques of photography by teaching and lecturing. My clients range from international tourism, architectural, corporate and editorial to individuals looking for personalized art.
