Alysha Nett

Alysha Nett

Let's start with your name, or the name you work under, where you're from, and an approximate time of when you made an appearance on this planet.
My name is Alysha Nett and I'm originally from Wichita, KS but am now based out of Dallas, TX and as of October I will be living in Philadelphia, haha! I'm 22 years old, coming up on 23 this fall.

When did you first start modeling? Are you represented by an agency or are you an independent free-lancer?
I first started modeling in 2006 and really started taking it seriously the past year or so.

Why do you model, other than the final remuneration, of course!?
Modeling is a creative release for me. It helps me stay sane.

What are your long term career goals, ambitions and aspirations?
Long term goals are really hard for me because i've always lived my life a day at a time. my goal in life has always been to be successful and happy.

Do you remember the first time you saw a tattoo? What was your initial reaction?
My grandfather always had tattoos from being in the Navy so I suppose I never really had a reacton. They were just always there!

When did you get your tattoos, starting with the first? Why the particular tattoo designs you have? Who was the tattoo artist?
I got my first tattoo when I was 17 and it was not thought out at all I was just too excited that my dad was going to let me that I didn't exactly think it through. That tattoo is now covered up, haha! The tattoos I have now represent me and things that I like and help me remember the different points in my life. My main tattoo artist is Raul Tanguma in Wichita, KS at Sailor's Tattoo.

What does your body art reveal about you? Style or Statement?

I don't necessarily take either in to consideration. I don't care what's "stylish" because guess what, in a year its not going to be anymore. It'll all die and cycle out just like tribal bands and barbed wire. My artwork represents me.

When you got the tattoo(s), did you think about the possible effect of having body art on your ability to get work, or model?
I started getting tattooed before modeling was ever a thought. When i first started getting tattooed they were in more discreet places in case I ever wanted to work in an environment that wouldn't approve. As I got older and started discovering myself I realized I wouldn't be happy working anywhere that wouldn't allow me to be myself and since happiness is my main goal, well, I did what I wanted. Since i'm not an "industry standard" model I don't feel it really harms me in my modeling. In fact, it may enhance it.

What is the usual reaction of photographers to your body art? Others in the fashion business? Significant others? Strangers on the street!?
Most photographers hire me based on my look so they enjoy my tattoos. i'm sure there are people in the fashion industry that don't approve but I have hope! with significant others, i would hope they approve! haha strangers are the hardest to deal with, mostly because i get tired of them grabbing me all the time.

Has having body art prevented you from doing any specific modeling work?
I'm sure it has, but more so than my tattoos my lack of height has prevented me from specific jobs.

Have you considered getting more body art? A design you are dying to get or a specific tattoo artist whose work you would like to have?
Getting tattooed is something i think about a lot. I love getting tattooed and yes, I will have more work done. I really want to get Jackie O. tattooed on my left foot to accompany the Marilyn Monroe tattoo on the right. I don't follow many artists so I can't say there is someone im dying to work with.

Any hints for aspiring models thinking about getting body art?
Just make sure you really think it through!

Do you have a favorite photographer?
They're all my favorites :)

Any photographers you are dying to work with?
Terry Richardson

A photographic or artistic project that you would love to be associated with?
I would love to do a spread for dazed and confused, nylon, or V. I'm in lust with those magazines.

When you think of celebrity tattoos, who do you think of first?
Kat Von D I suppose

Have you ever searched online for information about tattoos?
I've searched online for images for inspiration for new tattoos. Pictures of my little ponys, things like that.

Have you ever heard of the Vanishing Tattoo website, or visited the site - www.vanishingtattoo.com ?
Honestly, I hadn't heard of it until you contacted me!

What do you think when you hear about someone who's lost a job opportunity because of their body art?
Unfortunately that is the world we live in. you have to think long and hard before tattooing your hands and neck. a lot of places want you to portray them a certain way.

What do you think about the current popularity of tattoos within mainstream popular culture?
I think its a great thing. pretty soon people without tattoos will be the minority
