Katherine Evelyn Anita "Katie" Cassidy-Benedon (born November 25, 1986) is an American singer and actress, perhaps best known for her roles in Supernatural, Melrose Place, Harper's Island, Black Christmas, and Taken.
Katie was born in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of '70s pop idol David Cassidy and former model Sherry Benedon; the two had an "on-again, off-again" relationship during the 1970s-1980s, resulting in Katie's birth in 1986, sixteen years after first meeting. Sherry and David remained close friends. Cassidy's paternal grandparents were actors Jack Cassidy and Evelyn Ward. She grew up in Calabasas, California with her mother and stepfather, Richard Benedon, an ER physician. She has two successful older sisters, Jenna and Jamie. She also has a younger brother Beau Cassidy. As a child, Cassidy took to tumbling and eventually became a cheerleader for the California Flyers, a competitive team. She cheered as a freshman for Calabasas High School where she attended classes and graduated in 2005.
She filmed scenes for the film remake Revenge of the Nerds, but production was halted and the movie eventually cancelled. She appeared in Taken (2008) with Liam Neeson and Maggie Grace. She is scheduled to star in a movie remake of the television series Dallas as Lucy Ewing. Cassidy had a 1 year-deal on The CW's popular drama Supernatural. Cassidy played the bride-to-be, Trish Wellington, in the CBS series Harper's Island (2009) and Ella Flynn in Melrose Place (2009). Cassidy was cast as Kris in the A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010).
Katie currently has four tattoos; one on her hip, one on her foot, one on her ankle, and one in the middle of her back. The first tattoo Katie had done is the year of her maternal grandmother's birth, "1922" and it is on her hip. It is dedicated to her grandmother. The tattoo on her foot is of three stars depicting Katie and her two sisters Jaime and Jenna, who also each have the same tattoo. Their mother Sherry has a tattoo with three shooting stars (the three daughters) coming from a center star (Mom). Each woman wears it in a different location. Katie also has a tattoo word-ring going around her left ankle, which reads Love Thyself, Know Thyself, Be Thyself. The tattoo she has in the middle of her back is a Latin phrase: Alis Volat Propiis. In English it means, "She Flies with Her Own Wings."
